National Power Training Institute was created as a National Apex Body by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Power in the year 1993 by renaming and upgrading the erstwhile Power Engineers Training Society.

NPTI with its Corporate Centre at Faridabad operates Eight Institutes all over the country. It has five Regional Institutes located at Neyveli (Tamil Nadu), Durgapur (West Bengal), Badarpur (New Delhi), Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Guwahati (Assam) and two specialized Centres viz., Power Systems Training Institute (PSTI) & Hot Line Training Centre (HLTC) at Bangalore, a Centre for Advanced Management and Power Studies (CAMPS) at Faridabad (Haryana). NPTI (NE-R) is at present operating from temporary site at Narangi Complex of ASEB, Guwahati and the full-fledged training Institute is being set up at Kahilipara, Guwahati. To address the training requirement of Hydro Power Sector, a specialized Hydro Power Training Centre is also being set up at Nangal, Punjab.

NPTI and its Regional Institutes are fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art training infrastructure and has expert faculties with long years of professional and teaching background. The Training Institute at Badarpur and Nagpur are equipped with a Computer based Full-scope Replica Simulator of 210 MW Fossil Fuel Thermal Power Plant to provide off-job/hands on training. NPTI corporate Office at Faridabad houses a state-of-the-art 500 MW Simulator,430 MW Combined Cycle Gas Training Simulator and a GIS resource Centre.

Several long-term and short-term training programs in the areas of Thermal, Hydro, Transmission & Distribution and Management etc. are being conducted in the various Institutes of NPTI. Besides imparting training in the areas of Thermal, Hydro and Transmission & Distribution covering nearly 10,000 power professional of various levels annually, NPTI also conducts following industry interfaced academic programs with the objective to create a pool of committed and competent professionals equipped with appropriate technical skills to steer the Indian Power Sector:-

• Four Year B.Tech./B.E Degree in Power Engineering
• Two Year MBA in Power Management
• One Year Post Diploma Course in Thermal Power Plant Engineering
• Six Months O&M of Transmission and Distribution System for Engineers
• Nine Months Post Graduate Diploma Course in Hydro Power Plant Engg.
• One Year Post Graduate Diploma in GIS and Remote Sensing (RS)

NPTI provides Consultancy Services to Power Sector organizations in the field of Human Resource Development, Training Need assessment, Recruitment, Preparation of DPRs as per APDRP schemes, Setting up of Training Institutes etc.
