3. Renovation & Modernization

  • Hydro

    - Under the hydro R&M programme, 65 (15 in Central Sector and 50 in State Sector) hydro electric schemes (13 upto the VIIIth Plan, 20 in the IXth Plan & 32 in the Xth Plan) with an installed capacity of about 10511 MW at a cost of about Rs. 1730 crores have been completed by the end of the Xth Plan (i.e by 31st March 2007) & have accrued a benefit of 2351 MW through Life Extension, Uprating and Restoration

  • For the XIth Plan (2007-12), a total of 57 hydro R&M schemes (Revised from earlier programmed 60 schemes) having an installed capacity of about 10716 MW at an estimated cost of Rs. 4122 Crores were programmed to accrue a benefit of about 4123 MW through Life Extension, Uprating and Restoration. Out of 57 schemes, till date only 2 schemes (1 in Central Sector and 1 in State Sector) with an installed capacity of 134 MW at a cost of about Rs. 35 Crs. have been completed and has accrued a benefit of 50 MW through Life Extension & Uprating and 28 schemes are Ongoing. The balance 27 schemes are under various stages of implementation i.e. under Tendering, DPR preparation / finalization and RLA Studies.

  • Thermal
  • During the 11th Plan, 81units with a total capacity 13,032 MW are programmed to be taken up for LE. Another 77 units with a capacity of 19,205 MW would be taken up for R&M to sustain their performance. The salient features of the programme:-
